Community resilience and Climate justice
LEAVEN’S DREAM FOR CLIMATE JUSTICE AND COMMUNITY RESILIENCE
Through an listening season in the Fall of 2023, Leaven Community unveiled a dream to become a Community Resilience Hub. We imagine Leaven being a place where diverse neighbors can grow and share food, care for one another and have access to the knowledge- and resource-sharing we all need to thrive amidst uncertainty.
Resilience hubs are trusted community-centered places that are set up to address daily community needs, and are also equipped to provide support in the face of disasters like fires, earthquakes, and other extreme weather events. Learn more about Resilience Hubs here.
We can’t act on this dream without our neighbors! That’s why part of this event will be to invite the surrounding communities - YOU! - to a community forum asking what “disaster” looks like in our lives - climate-related or otherwise - and how Leaven Community might be able to respond to such disasters.
COMMUNITY ORGANIZING CORE team
Leaven’s Community Organizing Team exists to organize for community resilience in our neighborhood and city.
Leaven is recruiting for the 2024-2025 Community Organizing Core Team to deepen and build relationships with our neighbors on our way toward becoming a Community Resilience Hub - an energy-efficient, welcoming space for neighbors to build relationships, grow and share food, connect with nature, and hold decision-making power to shape what the community needs.
The Community Organizing Core Team will engage our neighbors and partners in a visioning process around local climate and community resilience, ultimately facilitating a collective community vision and plan for the resilience hub.
The Team kicks off at the Leaven Community Organizing Training on September 29 and October 6.
